Why did we start the Callimachus Open Source Project?
We began the Callimachus Project in 2008 as a Linked Data framework to simplify creating data-driven applications. As the project evolved, we continued to add features our customers and the community requested including improved functionality for local development and remote deployment, wiki-like user interface, improved visualization and support for federated queries.
What is Callimachus good for?
Callimachus provides a powerful wiki-like user interface. Applications allow visitors to visualize Linked Data via “follow your nose” navigation and familiar charting format supported by Google Charts. Additional support for advanced visualizations, especially in an environment where public Internet access is limited, are being integrated.
Today, Callimachus is used to rapidly demonstrate the value proposition of Linked Data. It allows developers to quickly connect data sets published in RDF and visually show Linked Data. Callimachus is being used for Open Government projects, and by software vendors to enhance their offerings. Organizations charged with financial regulatory analysis and corporate compliance are using Callimachus to see the power of a Linked Data approach to data integration and visualization.
